My favorite CDs of 2007
Of the CDs (I still really want to call them albums, which makes me feel old) I listened to much that were released in 2007, these were the ones that got repeated plays. That’s obviously some indication of how much I liked them. Since I started ordering music for the library, I’m definitely listening to more new stuff. Maybe I’ll even branch out into World or Classical sometime, but don’t hold your breath.
1. The Con – Tegan and Sara This one really grew on me. “Nineteen” is my current favorite.
2. All the Lost Souls – James Blunt As good if not better than his first CD, “Annie” is a standout.
3. Under the Black Light – Rilo Kiley Just started listening to this and it’s great. Jenny Lewis is realizing her potential in a big way.
4. Barenaked Ladies Are Men – Barenaked Ladies I thought this was a throwaway CD since it followed their last work so closely, but it’s just as good as Barenaked Ladies are Me.
5. Join the Parade – Marc Cohn Good CD after a long time away. The title song is the best. Katrina seems to be the catalyst for this CD.
6. Magic – Bruce Springsteen Best CD he’s made since Tunnel of Love. Love “Radio Nowhere”
7. What is Love For – Justin Currie A subdued but enjoyable set of songs from the former lead singer of Del Amitri
8. Seastories – Minnie Driver Pleasant CD that I had stayed away from because I hate vanity works by actors. It’s worth a listen.
9. Strange Wierdos – Louden Wainwright Music from the movie Knocked up mostly. Some great songs on here like “Daughter” and “Grey in LA”.
10. Traffic and Weather – Fountains of Wayne This one is still growing on me, but it also led me back to their last CD, which is fantastic.
11. Once soundtrack Another great movie soundtrack. Hope they win the oscar.
12. Careful What You Wish For – Jonatha Brooke Haven’t listened to it much, but it’s another solid effort from a great artist.
Ones that I need to listen to some more are below. They haven’t grabbed me yet but they might. Tegan and Sara took a while before I warmed up to their new CD, so it could happen.
Easy Tiger – Ryan Adams
Raising Sand – Alison Krauss & Robert Plant
Little Voice – Sara Bareilles
Disappointments of 2007 are below
Drastic Fantastic – KT Tunstall Her last Cd was better.
It Won’t Be Soon Before Long – Maroon 5 Ditto, getting a little tired of them.
A Hundred Miles or More – Alison Krauss I love her music, but this one was way too slow. She needs some upbeat songs in between the slow ones which is why I was glad to see she made a CD with Robert Plant.
The Reminder – Feist Loved the big hit, “1234″ but was underwhelmed by the rest of the CD.
Ghost Stories – Chantal Kreviasuk Liked her previous CDs better.
