Erin Bode – great new recording, but is it Jazz?

I bought this one on a whim and it turned out to be a true find.  The first song on the recording is wonderful (it’s called New England Friends).  She goes on to do a nice cover of an old Paul Simon tune, Born at the Right Time.  Now I don’t know a lot about Jazz, but this strikes me as more of a straight up pop recording.  What I fear may be happening is that it is harder and harder for singers to break through on the pop or rock charts, so they try to carve out a niche for themselves in other genres like Jazz.  But does jazz really need more artists like Norah Jones crowding the bins?  I’m not sure if this trend hurts or helps them.  Regardless, this is a recording that is well worth anyone’s time, whether you like jazz or pop music.
